fort chaffee hog hunting
« on: December 09, 2010, 08:58:34 pm »
i live in kansas but my wife's family lives in the Barling area.  Her uncle mentioned to me about hog hunting in Chaffee and that sparked my interest since I have never hunted hogs.  I am wondering how I can get some info.  about rules and regs. about it and how long rifle season is in arkansas.   Also since I only know where the catholic cemetery is on the fort (mother-in-law is buried there) I didn't know if there are maps of the fort and suggestions on where to hunt on the property.  Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I used to live near Ft. Chaffee, in fact, I harvested my first bow kill on Christmas day many many years ago. Anyway I am fairly familar with the hunting there.  You need to get in touch with Range Control. They used to require a permit to hunt which took a day of training. Now its been 5-6 years since I hunted there so things may have changed, but if you need me to I could do a little research for you.

does arkansas have an extended rifle season or does chaffee only allow rifle season for two days.  and if so do they allow bow hunting after that?  we are currently in rifle season for deer until tomorrow and then picks back up for a week in the beginning of january so i did not know if ft chaffee and arkansas have the same thing.

Chaffee has it's own seasons, you need to get hold of them. Use to be bow season was the same as Arkansas  but rifle was by draw, I don't know how they are regulating hogs.

Ft. Chaffee Range controls phone # is 479-484-2272, Arkansas Game and Fish is 479-478-1043. I spoke with both offices and this is the deal. To hunt on Ft. Chaffee you must attend an orientation. The cost is 20.00 and the next class will be in March. The AG&F regulates the hunting. You must check to make sure that the area you want to hunt in is open, Chaffee has several areas. You can hunt hogs after orientation, in an open area with any weapon that is suitable for an open season game animal. IE .22 during squrill, bow during deer archery etc.

Hope this helps
