I was in Boxley over the weekend showing the wife a good time, which included looking at the elk. Bet none of you thought of that for Valentines Day, anyway, we didn't see any horns. Have they shed?

Possibly in Arkansas, but not here. I had the usual heard behind my house yesterday, and noticed about 15 off by themselves. I scoped them, and about 3/4 of them were bulls huddled up together. They all looked pretty young but there were a couple in there with really nice racks.

MPOOR I contacted the AGFC about when do the elk in Arkansas shed their antlers. The said the elk here shed their antlers in March and early April,I also ask them is it legal to shed hunt for elk antlers in the state and they said you can on private land, but not on WMA's or public land.

Does the same apply for shed hunting deer antlers on WMAs?  That doesn't make sense why you couldn't shed hunt for elk antlers on a WMA, unless the general public isn't allowed on them during non-hunting seasons, but then again our tax dollars do help pay for them so we should be able to go on them whenever we want, theoretically that is.

Did not go to the Ponca info center but we have been to the one in Jasper several times. Good research guys, thanks. I wonder if you could hunt sheds in the national forest? Are the elk in Boxley in a WMA? It does seem odd that you can't hunt sheds in a WMA.

Several people committed on the AGFC facebook page about shed hunting for antlers. The AGFC said that it is protected by a law that you can't remove any trees, rocks or artifacts from any WMA,s.I have seen this law on national forrest, like yellowstone or rocky mountain national park. But on WMA or public land I thank It's  bs
