Its a couple months away still but im looking for any ideas for what you think is a majic bait for catching catfish on Lake Quachita we go over every year the third week of APRIL to BRUSHY CREEK our bait of choice for the past couple of years has been brim that we catch in the daylight hours ,saltys which we buy from Zimmermans Exxon in Little Rock and trotline size minnows we get from the local marinas untill they run out and believe me they run out quick we use a party barge to put them out in the evening and flat bottoms and bass boats to pick them up at daylight the next morning we put out 100 jugs each night and we have about 10 guys in camp for the week some times more with the children coming and going our best fish last year was 46 lbs and our best the year before was 65 lbs this little trip was started by BILLY (WILLEY) MOSLEY 20 years ago he passed away of a heart attack 2 years ago but we are keeping up the tradition good food and good fun had by all it cant get here fast enough.

I bet that is a good time.
Here are my usual catfish bait. I usually don't do any jugging so may be different all-together.
Chicken Liver Magic Bait Stew Beef (it is already cut up and stays on hooks well)
Have heard lots of people say hot dogs ... and once even knew somebody that used SPAM!

I have even heard of people using pieces of balled up peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Damn catfish will eat anything which is good because other fish will stay away from it. Not to mention can't get much cheaper and pb&j's, Will feed both you and the fish, HAHA

Trotline minnows are my favorite. Trout guts are excellent. I often use spam, but it will come off the hook with just one bite. I had a little luck using squid on the river and that stuff will not come off of the hook. I have also had some luck with duck meat. It is real bloody and stays on the hook well.

Lots of good ideas. I have some friends down in Louisiana that use shrimp and they say it works awesome. Probably not real cost-effective here though when there are cheaper options. Might be worth a try once just to see how it does however.

I have several friends that use shrimp exclusively. They have the little boxes of head-on bait shrimp at Academy sports in a little freezer. I saw them this weekend. They were either $1.99 or $2.99. Sometimes you can find them in your grocery stores freezer.

I have used hotdogs marinated in strawberry kool-aid packet and garlic. It's ok. I'd use chicken or turkey liver on river lakes. Small bream or skipjack in the river. Talking about larger lakes, it's all greek to me. I'd be lost.
