This is the deer I'm doing the dance with, how old do you think he is. He has a belly like a Preacher! He should, all the corn I've fed him.

Looks to be about 2 years old the older ones seem to have more of a sway back.

I'm betting that deer is 4-1/2 yrs old or better. Not judging by the antlers but , by it's body. A 2-1/2 yr old has huge looking hams because of their small narrow shoulders. A 3-1/2 year old has almost a straight belly line , with just a little taper upwards toward their hind legs, and their shoulders are starting to match the size of their hams. 4-1/2 - 5-1/2 yr olds start to look larger in the front end than their rear end. That second pic in black and white represents a quite larger front end ,small rear , and kind of a shorter/blockier head. IMO... I'm no biologist or anything but , I have looked at quite a few trail cam pics over the years of bucks that I could identify from one year to the next and saw how their bodies changed as they got older. I also have been fooled alot too though.

Once it is harvested, mpoor needs to send the jawbone to AGFC for analysis.

Can't you buy some kits to help you determine the age?

No way. That deer is too small and look how short his snout is. That is a younger buck. The only reason I threw out the 3-1/2 possibility is his mass at the base and I'd really like to change that to 3. Now I've got to know. Where is this buck? I'm killing him.

mpoor, I'm pretty sure that I saw a post on here somewhere by a guy named deerdoctor saying that he was a wildlife bioligist. You should drag him into this. I'm curious to hear what he thinks. Either way , mature or not , you better hurry up and lay the smack down on him before he sheds his antlers. A buddy of mine sent me some pics this weekend , from our lease , of three bucks together and two of them had already lost one side.
