Most folks would say their best deer season was when they killed their biggest buck or multiple bucks and so on.  Thats not quite the case here, but this season was awesome for 2 reasons.  First, between my wife and I we have about 8 deer in the freezer which is more than enough meat to get us through next season and more.  We use deer burger for almost everything but with this much meat we ended up with sausage, bacon burger, whole tenderloins and backstraps for grilling, plus alot of steak to fry up!  Secondly, I should be getting my first triple trophy certificate in the mail any day.  I've grown up deer hunting and always loved it but never been one of those guys that could brag alot.  I've always been happy with a big fat doe.  I got a 7 pt. opening evening of bow season which was my first bow kill and biggest buck to date.  I had no luck during muzzleloader season which is unusual.  Got 2 doe during modern gun which left me itching for that muzz. kill.  I hunted harder than ever all the way to the x-mas muzz. hunt and several big doe gave me the slip.  Finally a huge doe presented itself and it all came together.  I was really hoping to get a big buck this year and saw a few but couldn't capitalize.  Overall I'm really happy with the way things turned out and hey, it ain't over yet!!!!

Sounds like you can really see the appreciation of what hunting is all about Bodcaw. Congrats and just going to make next season that much better when you get a nice rack that walks in your path.

Yeah, me too.  When I first started huntin' with a muzz I didn't have much luck.  Wounded a few that I couldn't find, but stuck with it and it paid off.  This year was the first out of the last four I haven't bagged one on openin' morning.

By the way, I still hunt with about a 10 yr old Traditions that my grandpa gave me.  Not a bad rig, especially when it was free with all the tools, but I have to carry all that in the woods with me in case I need to remove breech plug, nipple, etc.  Anybody have one of the newer models with the speed breech feature?  Are they pretty good?
