Deer Numbers

Is it me or has anyone noticed a deer reduction in zone 3. I Have 80 acres near Poughkeepsie and also hunt in Fulton county, and I have noticed a big drop in Deer numbers. If so what happened to them? It's been a very dry summer, have they just moved?

During the 2009-10 season, 4,291 deer were harvested in Sharp County.
So far, as of right now, 2,506 deer have been harvested in Sharp County.

That is a pretty sharp drop in numbers for sure.
How was the acorn crop in your area? May just be that they stayed bunked up much more than usual.

Good call Kevin. That is usually the story when there is a good acorn crop, which was pretty good this year. But that is a huge reduction in harvest #'s.
Turn some AOO boys loose in there and I bet the numbers will rise sharply!

There was a good acron crop but the summer was very dry, but the deer have farm ponds and were not on strawberry river. Two weeks ago I made another drive in the hills and very few deer tracks. I haul corn to Newark and Batesvill and have seen less deer this year than ever and this is at night too.

I think that seeing less deer this season was because of a record acorn crop. I hunt Newton County and the squirrels were far and in between. So, with a lot of acorns on the ground, the deer didn't have to go far for food. Just my 2 cents.
