So I got my first deer yesterday.  A doe with my crossbow at about 25 yards.  She was a good sized doe but had a tremendous amount of very tender meat.  We had to be careful with the back straps not to tear them.  I was in on cleaning a decent eight point on Saturday.  It was very meaty as well.  I've talked to somebody else that has made the same observation that the deer that have been killed seem to have a lot of meat on them this year.  Has anyone else here had the same experience?  I was told this morning that the acorns got the perfect weather conditions this year to be big and plentiful.

The deer where I'm hunting south of Conway are slim. I killed one yesterday as well and it was fairly healthy, but the does I've been seeing have been very slender. The area I'm hunting is overpopulated and the deer are short on resources.

Acorns are everywhere in north central Arkansas. Also very over-populated with doe, but definitely plenty of acorns to go around.

I fried some of the back strap last night and I'm telling you, it was butter.  So tender and fluffy.  I just couldn't believe it.  One reason that I have not hunted in so long is that I never really cared for venison but this was excellent.  I can't wait to get another one.
