During the middle of the rut, I rattle less than during the end of the pre-rut. During the rut, bucks are consumed with chasing does, and fights are generally brief. It's not uncommon to rattle in a doe with a buck in tow.

Although fighting isn't as long and dramatic after the rut, you can still rattle.
