Do you think Arkansas archery season should be shortened to end in late January? This is the poll I put up the other day and was wondering everybody's thoughts. ( http://www.arkansasoutdoorsonline.com/blog/category/arkansas-deer-hunting) Most states end earlier than end of February. Don't really have a problem with it, but just has always seemed really late to me.

The season for archery could be shorten,It wouldn't hurt.Because by now the bucks are loosing their horns and it is hard to tell buck from doe,and most does are bred by now.

I think it is fine the way it is. It gives hunters an extra month to harvest more does which need to be taken out of the herd.

I think its fine the way it is but most of the bucks have lost there horns or will soon and you dont want to shoot a big old doe that has been bred and may have twins in her belly seen that happen just makes you sick not to mention its hard to get them in bow range with little cover and them being scared to death from the gun season most of the deer you see now is just after dark you might get on a field edge and have some luck.

I don't have a problem with the current season, I don't know very many guys that hunt much in February anyway. Game and Fish should monitor the herd population in various areas and regulate the season and harvest rates accordingly. If the population is too big, harvest more does, too small, less does. Its all about carrying capacity.
Another issue is public perception, G&F are paid by hunters, so often management may or may not be done on a purely scientific basis. Perception is reality so managers need to take that into consideration. For instance, the 3 pt. rule, harvesting pregnant does, harvesting spikes, hunting with dogs etc. all stir up opinions that differ from reigon to region and hunter to hunter.
So, if you manage game and one hunter tells you that a good hunt is when they see lots of deer, and another says he wants to shoot large bucks, what do you do?

got to thin out them does some how seems to me thats why G&F keep the season open this long. don't hunt in feb. but can see how the long season might thin out the bucks instead. never know what those big ole does will hatch.

I think archery season is fine. I would like to see modern gun season go a little longer, especially after a year like we just had. It was way too hot during modern gun to do anything.

I have to disagree with this totally.......If the whole goal in some areas is to REDUCE the doe numbers well then why would it be a shame to shoot a doe with twins inside her???....You have just taken 3 out instead of one wich leads to LESS does correct???...and as far as them being scared to death from the gun season? ...Now come on man gun season ended Dec 15 followed by a 3 day Christmas gun hunt and your saying the deer are still running scared? .......The season needs to stay the way it is.You should be thanking the lord above that your season last as long as it does.

About what i expect coming from someone from hickville ,la what if that old doe is carrying 2 button heads and not does would that give you a good feeling or do you just not care i have hunted deer in this state in clubs for over 30 years and i dont know about LA but in Arkansas these deer see a lot of pressure i can assure you they change patterns and you will not see most deer move untill after dark even the young ones are not stupid by this time, from your post i think you need to stay in hickville,la because one of these ARKANSAS boys might stomp a mud hole in your (WIDOWMAKER) a$$..

Agreed. Surely you guys can agree to disagree. No need to shy away from posting in the future. My best duck hunting buddie and I argue way worse than that every time we go hunting, but we still keep going and still argue for 2 hours every morning before sunrise. [before hand the following is only in good humor] Besides you're obviously both liars. Anyone that passionate about such a small topic is obviously from the Jersey Shore.
