Whoa Nelly! If you're gonna bust the guy bust him for rooting for LSU not his opinion on killing does. I happen to agree with Widowmaker, if you are interested in reducing herd population whats the difference between killing a bred vs. unbred doe? I know lots of us were raised not to kill does so I understand that folks will have differing opinions and we are all intitled to them.

In buck's defense, his point was that the doe could very well be carrying little future bucks instead of future does, it wasn't that he doesn't agree with shooting does in general. I actually agree with his opinion personally. Don't really like smoking does in February if they are all knocked up because I might be taking next year's bucks with her. Have absolutely no problem shooting them earlier in the season, It's a really good thing to keep the doe population down so you can improve the buck-to-doe ratio. But at least as this point theres a 100% chance that i'm killing a doe and only a doe.

You have got to realize though man that it's going to be a small % bucks on the overall picture that wont make it.Most people are not hunting Febuary anyway and if they are hunting in an area that needs a herd reduction what makes a buck worth more than a doe???...The overall goal in that area is to thin the herd no matter what the sex is.

Actually for me, that is not true at all. The goal is to thin the does. not the overall herd where I hunt. If I want to thin does I do it earlier in the season. In doing that I am 100% accomplishing my goal of improving the buck to doe ratio because i've eliminated one doe and have not eliminated one buck. Harvesting a pregnant doe in February does not give me the same 100% success rate. Sure maybe it is only a 20% chance that the doe is carrying a buck, but that lowers my odds to 80% and potentially costs me a future buck. I see and respect your point but it's not my late season hunting philosophy

All's well that ends well. I'm glad we are not a bunch of girly men and we can have a little smack talk and settle it with no hurt feelings. That is what I like about this forum, we generally pull together and are supportive of each other. I know I have asked my share of stupid questions and everyone has been very helpful. But....

I still hope the Razorbacks beat LSU! Sorry widowmaker  laughing4
