I tend to agree with Sloughboy.  I abide by the game laws of the land.  In my normal hunting area, the landowner's rules state AR game laws (I'm in Zone 10) and bucks should be "eight points or better".  Well, that eliminates some horned animals, but over the years I've killed young eight points with twelve inch spreads up to much greater points with about 16-18 inch spreads.  Nowdays, if I'm hunting this landowner's property I'm looking still looking at eight points or more, but won't shoot anything less than outside "ear width" spread-about 16".  I abide by this particular landowner's wishes.

On the other hand, I'm currently hunting two private landowner tracts that are heavily hunted.  One landowner wants ALL deer shot-he raises a corn patch for picking and doesn't want the deer eating his corn.  The other hasn't said, but I think there are lots more hunters on his property than he thinks.  On these tracts, I will shot anything that is "legal".  On these two tracts I abide by the State's mandates.

I sure like to see those large horned bucks, but that doesn't always happen.  I do kill my share of them, but all in due course.

In my opinion, a fifteen inch eight point is a real trophy in a public managed hunting area.  Try hunting Camp Robinson.
