My wife just got me an old jon boat for christmas and i noticed that there was no wood on the transom. just a plain aluminum on the back of the boat. i've never owned a boat and was wondering if thats normal or something i need to fix? also, is jb weld a good marine sealant?

JB Weld would work as sealant. I know they make a special "marine" JB Weld.
I think there should be a piece of marine plywood there but I'm not %100 sure if you have to have it or not.

It should be fine if that is how it was designed. I have seen plenty of transoms that had no wood but on the other hand adding marine plywood as suggested can't hurt.
