What kind of shells does everybody shoot?

I know there are a lot of different types and grains and everything else, but about as far as I've ever ventured is ballistic tips. Regular ol Remington shells seems to have always done the job for me.

Anybody shooting anything different, or have any recommendations?

Do love the 308, with all the discussion about all the other rounds in this forum, still rely on the 308 to do the job.  I  reload with the 168 gr boattail Hornaday Max rounds.  My son and I both shoot 308s and kill lots of deer every year from very close out to 250 yds.  No problem.  He and I both practice out to 400 yds.  To me, with all of the advantages the 308 offers, what else could you ask for?? Bullet type kind of depends on where and how far you shoot.

I shoot a 30-30 with 170 gr silvertip. I'm in the market for a 243 to go with it. I also shoot a 7mm mag, its my Colorado gun and I'm firing 165 gr boat tail. It hammers muleys and one cow elk. What is a good bullet for the 243?

I've had a .243 for years-Ruger bolt action with the Mauser bolt.  It is the slickest feeding bolt action I've ever had.  It groups a regular Remington Core-Loc-the cheapies like you can buy at Walmart or anywhere, real well.

I've handloaded 100 grain Nosler Partitions in it for deer and killed a wagonload of them over the years with it.  It helps if you place it in the right place, but goes for any caliber.  Don't doubt the ability of that partition to plow on through-it will.

One of my grand-daughters hunts with it now.  I also shoot a 30-06 and .280 on occasion.

Over the years I've shot a lot of deer, crippled a few, missed a few easy ones-with all those calibers above.

OK Sloughboy, this is the deal. I traded for a browning lever in 22-250. The 40 gr bullet is a joke, but I hammered a huge hog at 130 yds with 60 gr. That being said, I already have enough 30 cal guns and want to trade the browning for another gun, I really like a 6mm I used to own. Ive got a good shotgun, so what say you? Keep the browning and just use it for varmits? I love the gun just not crazy about the caliber.

Really, any advice would be welcomed.

Well I have a habit of not being able to get rid of any guns so I can't give any advice on that. Browning is my favorite brand so that makes it even harder. I would difinitely choose a .243 over a .22-250 for deer. I still have a .243 and my wife and kids are currently using it. I have killed lots of deer with the .243, but I pretty much have no intention of ever shooting at a deer with one again. Some times it just isn't enough gun for deer. My opinion is if you can handle a larger caliber.. use one. I have my limits though. I think .300 mag is too big.
