I shoot a Savage 308 (which isn't the topic) and have recently joined a new deer lease.  Before, I was shooting deer no further than 50-75 yards.  Now I am on some land where members have taken deer out to 200 yards and maybe further.

What distance do any of you sight in your rifles for these longer shots?

If I think I'm going to be shooting 200 I will sight it in at 200. For me, around Arkansas, I sight in at 100 yds dead on and then shoot at various distances to see what I need to compensate in the field.

If I do hunt with a rifle I sight mine in dead on at 30yds.. I then shoot at 100yds. I shoot 4in. high, so that puts me good out to 200yds. I know this cause I shot a doe at 200yds ( give or take ) and hit my mark. How ever, I rarely take a shot that far. Most of mine are no further that 50 or 60 yards. I do the same way with my squirrel rifle. Thumb tack at 30yds. I am very comfortable. I much rather bowhunt though.

It depends what your shooting...Up in the northwest I used to sight in at 300yds .270wsm .300 wby mag; now that I just moved to arkansas ill prob drop it down to 200 but eitherway depending on what you shoot if you know your bullet drop compensation its only a few inches difference with flat shooting rifles. I reccommend putting enough rounds through it so you know how to make hits anyrange withing the kill radius of your selected rifle.
