This will be my first year hunting in Arkansas if I dont get deployed... Moving out there from Western, WA. I'll be taking a WIN MOD .70 extreme weather ss in .270 wsm topped with a leopold mkII 4-12 pwr.

The 270 mag is a great round but frankly, in my opinion, too much gun for here. In the timber you won't be shooting 50 to 100 yds. max at a deer that weighs 150 lbs. (avg. doe wt. about 80lbs). My personal gun of choice for whitetail is a 30-30. Not too sexy, but very effective. I have a 7mm mag, but it only goes to Colorado now a days to roll muleys. You have a great gun, just my opinion.

I might suggest bow hunting if you don't already. This area is prime bowhunting due to topography and deer populations.

I thought WSM was "short mag"?

Ditto on bowhunting. Plenty of areas to get close.
