If you want to start an argument, tell a Boykin spaniel owner that his dog isn't a distinct breed. While not officially recognized by the AKC, there's little doubt that a Boykin is, well, a Boykin.

Most hunters who have spent time afield with Boykins love the diminutive spaniels, and believe it's only a matter of time before the AKC officially recognizes them as a distinct American breed.

Might be a good opportunity to post some pics of everybody's dogs, and/or discuss why you think your favorite breed is the best gun/hunting dog.

Sorry, poll only let me enter 10 options.

Duke is mainly a house dog but he gets going when we go and run some thickets together.

I am going to have to argue that the German Shorthaired Pointer without a doubt is the best all around dog. Then again that could be because that is the only Hunting dogs I have ever had. Our first back in the 70's when i was a little kid would point retrieve and by mistake we found out she also pointed rabbits :) I do have other dogs but people laugh at me when i show up with my Shorthair and a Yorkshire terrier lmao

Yeah my Boston Terrier does not make much of a hunting dog. However, if he eyes something he will get on point sometimes. They were originally bred as fox dogs in Massachusetts and I guess he just instinctively does it.
