Ther is a little wire guide, called a ring keeper, located just forward of the handle on most fly rods. Almost anyone who has fly fished for a long time has probably stored his fly in this ring keeper and has also probably impaled his hand on the point of the fly when handling the rod. To prevent this from happening again, slip the hook point under the hood at the forward end of the reel seat. This routine will protect your hand and eliminate problems.
