many anglers will tie a knot in a tapered  leader and then carelessly clip off the excess. This leaves small spurs or stubs, which can create problems.for one thing,on the cast the tippet section often travels close to the rest of the leader as it unfolds and moves toward the target.these untrimmed appendages will snag the tippet and spoil the cast. Also, when a hooked fish swims through underwater vegetation, these same stubs or spurs can pick up an amazing amount of grass, adding weight which will cause the tippet to break.
