Over the weekend I was in Kentucky on some business and had some time to hunt Saturday morning. I took my muzzle loader and bow just in case some turkeys came out. Five gobblers came out, I picked the biggest one and arrowed it at 20 yards. When I went to it and looked at its beard, it had four beards measuring a total of 34+ inches! Official score is 108.19 which puts it #1 State of Kentucky, #12 in the world.

Just goes to show, you never know, get off the couch and go!

http://www.nwtf.org/for_hunters/how_to_score.html This link will tell you officially how to score a Turkey. Short version is measure the spurs times 10, measure the beard times 2 then add the weight to get the total score.

I'll post the stats on this bird when I get them. The field score went like this. Weight 20.7, spurs 1 1/8 each, and four beards measuring 11, 6 7/8, 6 7/8, 7 5/8 totaling 32 3/8 inches of beard. We measured a little short and finished with official score of 108.19

By the way, the former state record was 108.00. Hate it for him...

Mpoor let me know when nwtf puts this up. I'd like to wait to post it so we can link to that official statement. If it is going to be weeks or whatever though, I'll go ahead and put it up.

What a bird! I've only seen one other 4 bearded bird; it came out of N Carolina. I hunt Kentucky as well as Arkansas, which county was this beast taken in?

I spoke with the folks at NWTF and they told me that they just finished up on the paperwork and I should be getting my certificate in the mail soon. They told me that it will be on the website by next week.
