I am new to public hunting. What are some good areas to turkey hunt without a permit and free since the permit period is over at the game and fish?

Yeah there definitely is not too many around that area. Ozarks is always your best bet. Consistently dominate the rest of the state as far as numbers go. Here are a few to look into:

White Rock WMA
Piney Creeks WMA
Sylamore WMA
Harold E. Alexander WMA
Shirey Bay/Rainey Brake WMA

Is White Rock a permit hunt area or just show up and hunt?

As far as I can tell from the White Rock WMA page on AGFC's website, you do not need a permit.

I have always known it to be show up and hunt, but the AGFC are trying to have their public meetings for the up coming season's but the weather has caused coucelations. So regulations could change.Last year you were allowed one gobbler and one jake.My nephew works for the forestry commission and harvested a nice gobbler last year in White Rock WMA,lucky him he knows were the good spots are.
