This is always the slowest time of the year for us, so I thought we should start talking turkey hunting.

Where will everybody be on opening day? Has anybody started scouting yet? Seen any good gobblers? Do you think the turkey population will be decent this year, or still down?

I went to Mound City, Missouri last weekend to goose hunt. Man I wish I was turkey hunting up there. Gobblers everywhere. I'll be hunting down in the Saline River bottoms close to Sulphur Slough somewhat near Mineral Springs. Got permission to hunt a 10,000 acre farm. My friends went out listening about a week ago and heard 4 at daylight. I'd rather be going up around the Buffalo, but the area we'll be hunting is better than I've had for the last few years. I haven't killed one in like 8 years. The population down there has grown over the past decade, but still nothing like it should be.

I'm headed to Kentucky for turkey season. I've been doing business over there and have developed pretty good relationships with some locals, I guess they would be called friends. We plan to turkey hunt this spring together and head to Colorado elk hunting this fall. As it stands now I plan to be the camp grunt. I don't know if I'll hunt so I offered to help pack, cook, call etc. which I will love to do.

I have also seen turkeys south of Dardanelle on Hwy 7, some in the fields some flying across the road. I have never hunted down there but there is a lot of National Forest, probably a lot of hunters too. But, you never know.

What I'm really getting geared up for is some pan fishing, I mean good ol bream/crappie/white bass what ever I can catch on my Zebco, fishing. I've been craving some pan fried fish with the skin on. I never even filleted a fish until I was grown. When I was a kid,(dang that sounds like the way grandpa starts his stories), we scaled em and jerked the fins off and fried them in a pan like fried chicken. I'm gonna do that.  occasion14

Going to Oklahoma first part of April to shoot some Rios (much easier to kill than easterns).  Have to go out of state, turkeys in southeast arkansas are few and far between.  May try to make a trip to Missouri, will wait and see.

I'll try my luck here around the property,I have seen two jakes and one gobbler so far and about nine hens.We use to have more than that around but I guess the past few winters took it's toll on them.Me and my nephew are going to do some scouting up and around White Rock WMA and Rosetta in Madison Co.

Unless something changes I'm sure I'll be out in Winona.  Saw a good about of turkey sign during the fall including a flock of about 10 one morning which I think included a bearded hen!  My buddy was scouting out there the other day and said the woods were looking prime for a good turkey season.

I'm afraid with the late start, it might be over before the season opens here in Arkansas.
