My son-n-law has got the shotgun bug and I want to get him one for Christmas. He likes shooting clays and hopefully he will eventually duck hunt with me and Harley. I am looking at the Remington 870 Express and the Stoeger p350 but I am open to other suggestions if it stays on a $300.00 budget.

Which one would you get for your son-n-laws first shotgun?

I think you can get a Benelli Nova somewhere around $350. It's a base gun, but a good one.

the stoeger P350 is not a very good gun. I had one a few years back, pretty inconsistent on cycling any shells regardless of size. However stoeger is part of the benelli family so maybe they have improved it.

With that said i haven't seen many good things about the new 870s, the old 870s built like a tank, but haven't been impressed with Remington products in the last few years.

if i was in this position i would get the 870 or like kevin mentioned the Nova/Super Nova whatever it is now, very similar to the p350 but much more reliable.

or hell, the super black eagle 2 is always an option too, never had a lick of trouble out of mine  notworthy

I think the super nova starts out around $459, but definitely a good choice. I have stoeger, browning, remington, winchester, New England, Rossi, and Charles Daly shotguns. Guess which one I prefer to hunt with. The Daly. Bought it for $249.99 at Wally World. Whatever you do....don't get an 887!

Cheapest I found the nova online was $379.99, but that is matte black. Not sure if you are wanting to get him a camo one or not. You may want to consider checking Craigslist too for a used gun.

Thanks for the help. Your right for about another $50 I can get the Nova. I have shot one at clay birds and loved it. I could give him my m1 super 90 and get the nova for myself. icon_pirat
